Completed in 2021, the Reel Cinema located in Blackburn, United Kingdom, stands as a flagship development in the heart of the town center. This $8.2 million project introduced an eight-screen cinema complex that includes entertainment zones, refreshment areas, and arcade gaming facilities. Adjacent to the venue, a $4.4 million underground parking facility and a redesigned public outdoor space were developed to enhance connectivity between local areas.
To meet the project’s high-performance requirements, Strongdor UK partnered with Shield Facades to supply 18 custom-engineered steel doors. These doors were manufactured in a variety of styles to match the complex specifications outlined by the project's contractors.
Each cinema screen was fitted with high-security, acoustically rated doors, capable of reducing sound transmission by up to 45dB. The doors were equipped with panic exit hardware to serve as emergency egress points and were coated with a durable, brown-colored powder finish to align with the overall design aesthetic.
Additional glazed panels were installed along the building’s perimeter and at the underground parking entrances to allow natural light and meet design regulations. In one instance, a steel door was even outfitted with a letterbox to maintain secure access while preserving day-to-day postal functionality.
